Walking into The Millers Oven tea house in Manotick is like entering Aunt Mary’s parlour, complete with servers who look appropriate to the setting. Even the restaurant’s Please Wait to be Seated sign is done in needlepoint.

The Miller’s Oven is a fundraising project as much as it is a restaurant.

The service was quick and friendly, with coffee being topped up at impressive intervals.

The tomato and pasta soup was flavourful.

However, the pasta had been lingering too long in the broth.

A crustless quiche included an appropriate blend of bacon and cheddar and was moist and nicely baked.

And the signature dessert: the mile high lemon pie was very true to its unique name.

Unfortunately, the filling of the pie was overly sweet and lacked the tartness of authentic lemon curd.

The raisin pie was simply raisin pie.

All in all, the Millers Oven tea house is a charming place to go for a bit of nostalgia to accompany your cup of coffee.
