Visitors give thumbs up

Olympic visitors had nothing but praise for Canada as they left Vancouver International Airport yesterday.

“Everything was well organized with the number of people that came through, everyone seemed to be pretty happy, and you know, I think everyone felt pretty safe,” said Sheila McCoy of Portland.

McCoy said she enjoyed the Games and that any glitches were minor when the big picture is considered.

“The one at the ice skating, where the ice wasn’t completely level, that was a big issue but okay we are all human.”

German alpine snowboarder Isabella Laboeck said Olympic crews worked hard at Cypress Mountain.

“I think they really did everything that was possible, for our competition on Cypress for snowboard alpine … It would be good if the condition of the slope had been better … but no one can do something about the weather,” she said.

“It was a lot of fun, but after three weeks it will be good to come home.”

The biggest pat on VANOC’s back came from Jan Prochazka, a Czech hockey coach.

“I had a really good feeling meeting the Vancouverites,” he said. “In general, I think these were great Olympics, because I remember the last Olympics in Turin and I think these were really better Games, especially the atmosphere.”
