A new player has entered the increasingly competitive Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) market, promising some of the cheapest and best-quality calls available, accessible through either a cell phone or a PC. Vyke.com says its calls come without sound distortion common to other VoIP providers.
On a cell phone, the service is accessed by downloading an app that runs in the background and which opens automatically when a user makes a call.
Vyke also promises to let users keep their SIM card, number and handset, and offers calls not only via a data connection, but also via Wi-Fi, GPRS/GSM, PC, landline and 3G.
Tore Hellebo, CEO of Vyke, told Metro: “It’s a crowded VoIP market out there, but we firmly believe VykeMobile has a strong and differentiated positioning. We anticipate significant growth over the next six months as we establish ourselves among the key VoIP players by year end.”
Vyke has also launched VykeZone, a service that, for just 25 cents for up to an hour, allows calls from a mobile phone or landline to 25 landline destinations.
The countries included are: Australia, Brunei, Canada, China, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, New Zealand, Poland, Puerto Rico, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, U.K., U.S. and Venezuela.
