A number of Edmontonians started mall walking early yesterday morning to help grant wishes for children.
The Wishmaker Walk for Wishes fundraiser is a national event held by the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada. The money is used to grant the wishes of children living with life-threatening illnesses. The three-km route for the walk was in the lower level of West Edmonton Mall.
Shannon Boese was 15 years old when she was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Two years later, she is tumour-free and grateful for receiving her wish in February — meeting her idol Edmonton Oiler Ales Hemsky.
Boese was a Wish Marshall at the walk and helped lead participants through the mall. “I think it’s great to help an organization that does so much for kids,” she said. “Because we’re a non-profit organization, Children’s Wish depends on events like this,” said Stacey Johnson, sub chapter co-ordinator for Edmonton.
