Boston Mayor Martin Walsh, traveled to California Tuesday as part of a contingent making the city’s case that it should host the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Teams from Boston, San Francisco, Washington D.C. and Los Angeles made hour-long presentations to the 15-member Board of Directors for the United States Olympic Committee (USOC).

USOC is expected to make a final decision about whether it will file a bid – and which city would play host – with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) sometime next month.

Walsh’s office confirmed the mayor joined supporters of the Boston Olympic bid in a trip to the west coast.

“The Mayor will be traveling to California to participate in a meeting with Boston 2024, before the U.S. Olympic Committee,” said Kate Norton, a Walsh spokesman. “He was invited to participate and share his perspective on what makes Boston a great city, not just for a possible Summer Olympic games, but overall.”

Walsh’s office did not respond to a request for any copy of his remarks or statements.

The proponents of the bid are Boston 2024, a consortium of local political, academic and business leaders. That group says an Olympics in Boston would “accelerate the delivery of improvements in transportation, infrastructure and housing” in the region and would “help catalyze the long-term vision” of the state.

Opponents, such as the group called No Boston Olympics, argue that hosting the games would be a disaster citing the financial costs of past Olympic games and taking issue with the lack of transparency surrounding the Boston’s bidding process.

Calls to the USOC were not returned before press time Tuesday.
