Warren’s VP chances dim after being picked to speak first night of convention

Will Hillary Clinton confirm longtime speculation and announce Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren as her vice presidential candidate?

If Warren’s speaking schedule at The Democratic National Convention is any indication: probably not.

The senior senator from the Bay State is scheduled to speak the first night of the convention later this month, much earlier than vice presidential candidates normally speak, according to the New York Times.

Two Democratic sources cautioned the paper that presumptive nominee Hillary Clinton was still making her decision about a running mate and that the schedule did not preclude her from being selected.

Warren has become a prominent national figure in the party’s liberal wing, known for her scathing attacks on presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump. Trump, in turn, has derided her for claiming Native American ancestry, referring to Warren on the campaign trail as “Pocahontas.”

Other potential candidates eyed for Clinton’s VP spot include: Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey; Rep. Xavier Becerra of California; Julian Castro and Tom Perez, who both serve in President Barack Obama’s Cabinet; and James G. Stavridis, a retired four-star Navy admiral, according to the Times report.
