WATCH: Semi-truck in high-speed chase

California Highway Patrol pursued a man for three hours Tuesday who had allegedly stolen a semi-truck that transports hazardous materials.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the chase beganat about 10:30 a.m. between Barstow and Victorville in San Bernardino County, ending around 1:30 p.m. in Whitewater.

The truck, from “ACT Enviro,” a company that transports hazardous material, was reported stolen in Barstow around 6 a.m. by its driver.

A company spokesman told ABC News that there are no explosives, radio-logical hazard or biological hazard in the truck, and a limited flammability risk, according to its manifest.

Although the driver kept police in pursuit for hours as viewers watched the chase unfold live on TV and online, he finally pulled over into a rest area in Whitewater, and into a marked parking space before peacefully surrendering, according to the Times.

Speaking with highway authorities on the phone beforehand he reportedly said he “didn’t want to go back to jail.”
