Watch the first meeting between Trump and Obama

The transition of power from President Barack Obama to Donald Trump began Thursday as the two met at the White House.

Obama said he had an “excellent conversation” with Trump, adding that they spoke of organizational issues and foreign and domestic policy.

“My No. 1 priority in the coming two months is to try to facilitate a transition that ensures the president-elect is successful,” Obama said. “I believe it’s important for all of us to now come together, to work together. If you succeed, then the country succeeds.”

Trump, who vowed to overturn Obama’s policies such as the Affordable Care Act while campaigning, said he looked forward to future meetings with the president and said the meeting was “a great honor.”

The 90-minute meeting “could have gone on for a lot longer,” Trump said. “I very much look forward to dealing with the president in the future, including counsel.”

Trump’s wife, Melania, met privately with first lady Michelle Obama, which the president said was another “excellent conversation.”

Trump is set to meet with Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan later on Thursday with Vice President-elect Mike Pence.
