Watch trailer for ‘Humans of New York’ new Facebook documentary series

If you’ve been a fan of the “Humans of New York” Facebook page since it first started, then you will be pleased to find out the popular photo blog will become a 12-part documentary series.

Brandon Stanton, creator of “Humans of New York” made an announcement on the blog’s Facebook page that he plans to take the thousands of people he’s encountered in the past few years and turn those experiences into a television series. He also shared a trailer of the series.

Stanton started the photo blog in 2010 with the goal of photographing and sharing the stories of everyday people in New York City. Since then, the “Humans of New York Facebook page has over 18 million likes.

According to Stanton, he’s filmed 1200 interviews on the streets of New York over the last four years, which gives him plenty of material to create a documentary series featuring the people he has photographed.

“Instead of posting these videos one day at a time, I held onto them so that one day I could combine them into something special,” Stanton said in the Facebook post. One of the goals of this project is to create the same experiences that he did with photos and words but allow viewers to feel closer to the people he photographs.

In an interview with Hollywood Reporter, Stanton says he’s been working on the project for a long time and felt that Facebook was the best platform to share the series since that’s how he gained the majority of his following.

The project will be produced and shot by Oscar-nominated producer Julie Goldman, who is known for producing “Weiner,” and “Life, Animated,” and he’ll be working with cinematographer Michael Crommett.

The series will be part of Facebook’s new “Watch” platform – a new Facebook feature that will show original programming. It premieres next week.

In the meantime, check out the trailer to catch a glimpse of what’s to come.
