A web page was made to entice local advertisers to steer away from a Boston-based sports blog and newspaper after controversy over posts of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s child.
“Boycott Barstool,” was started after founder David Portnoy allegedly posted pics of Brady’s naked kid with comments about the child’s genitalia.
The photos, which showed a nude-baby-Brady on the beach with supermodel mom Gisele, were removed from the site after State Police paid a visit to Portnoy’s place last Friday.
According to reports, police went to Portnoy’s home at the request of Attorney General Martha Coakley’s office last week. Coakley called the post and alleged comments about the child’s genitalia “troubling.”
Coakley’s office said detectives went to Portnoy to discuss the posts of Brady’s two-year-old son and Portnoy agreed to remove them. No further criminal action is being taken, according to reports.
Although the post came down, Portnoy took heat nationally, even getting commentary from Howard Stern, and an interview with Channel 5 made its way to USAToday and other news agencies.
The anti-Barstool Sports site says companies that have ads on the site and in print are allegedly pulling their names from the sports publication after the controversy. “According to sources, Quirk Auto is the latest Barstool Sports advertiser to jump ship,” the site claims.
According to Herald reports, even WEEI, a sports talk station Portnoy frequented for commentary, will not have him back on the show.
The station allegedly “barred him from appearing on its airwaves.”
The anti-site claims they are “not trying to stop Barstool Sports from doing what they do,” they just “simply want to make sure Boston-area advertisers know what they’re supporting.”
It provides numbers for readers to call to get the sports publication pulled from city streets, however, saying trash cans would be more suitable in their place.
