A wet — and often very windy — forecast is expected to hit parts of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and even New York City this holiday weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
The NWS issued a “hazardous weather outlook” early Thursday morning advising the potential for isolated strong thunderstorms with gusty winds.
As of 11 a.m., some of the strong storms had already passed southern Delaware and New Jersey.
Winds in central, southern and northern Delaware; northeast Maryland; central, northern, northwest and southern New Jersey; and east central, northeast and southeast Pennsylvania are expected to gust up to 20 to 30 mph throughout the day.
According to NWS meteorologist Patrick O’hara, there are no more thunderstorms expected for the remainder of Thursday, but there are a few showers forecasted in those regions.
New York City also has a 30 to 40 percent chance of some scattered showers or thunderstorms Thursday afternoon.
The wet weather will take a break for Christmas Day but is expected to return on the weekend. With this, the NWS advises all travelers to just take caution on wet roads, and head to their destinations slowly and safely.
“People should just be aware, travel slowly,” O’hara said. “[They should] take their time and get there safely, that’s the most important thing.”
