Living in New York, arguably the greatest city in the world, can be as difficult as it is amazing, but add a kid (or two or more), and it can be even more daunting.
But fear not, there are neighborhoods that are not only family-friendly and parent-friendly, but also wallet-friendly, for New York, according to a new study from StreetEasy.
Probably less surprising than a wallet-friendly nabe is that the majority of the real estate site’s top 10 is in the always-popular borough of Brooklyn, and Greenwood leads the pack.
Greenwood has a median rent of $2,350 for two bedrooms, and 62 percent of its available rentals have two or more bedrooms. And with 24 percent of households having kids under 18, there’s definitely a built-in community vibe. Plus, with an average review of 1.47, some of Brooklyn’s highest-rated schools are nearby.

In order to determine the best city neighborhoods for parents, StreetEasy looked at the share of rentals with two or more bedrooms, the number of households with kids under 18 and the performance and impact scores of the neighborhood’s school zone. Median asking rent was also a factor.
