It doesn’t seem like too long ago that Sammy Sosa was electrifying Major League Baseball alongside Mark McGwire in their 1998 chase of Roger Maris’ single-season home run record.
Then you make the horrible realization that it was 19 years ago and you have to go lie down for a few minutes.
Time doesn’t stop and it seems to be having quite the effect on Sosa, who looks nothing like the man that clobbered 66 home runs that year:
While he hasn’t been in the public spotlight often since his career ended in 2007, Sosa appeared on ESPN earlier this week and shocked many with his new look:
I don’t know what Sammy Sosa is going through, but the most important lesson I’ve learned in life is to love yourself for who you are. pic.twitter.com/uZ5hH2dTG9

Sure, it’s a lot to take in, but as long as the man is comfortable with the way he looks, then at the end of the day, that’s really all that matters. He hasn’t necessarily had it easy since his playing days finished. Despite ranking eighth in MLB history with 608 career home runs, Sosa’s steroid links will likely bar him from the Baseball Hall of Fame.
