This Valentine’s Day, make your date swoon with a home-cooked meal. Red Rooster Harlem chef Marcus Samuelsson, who was on hand last Friday to support his friend Hamdi Ulukaya, the CEO of Chobani, at the yogurt maker’s revamped Soho storefront, recommends a meal that you and your loved one can share and eat with your fingers — think oysters, chocolate, strawberries, etc. But for the main dish, he says it doesn’t get much better than a simple, classic roast chicken.
“To nail a roasted chicken — have a rub of smoked paprika and then fresh herbs and lemon, lemon zest maybe, roast it for an hour and a half, letting it rest for half an hour, and then eating it — that’s pretty impressive,” he told us. Serve it with some root vegetables like roasted cauliflower that you can dip into yogurt (just add olive oil, chopped parsley, and, if you’d like, chopped olives).
The most important part? “Eat together,” he told us. “I do a lot of feeding.”
