It seems assessing the long range impact of the recession depends on who you talk with.
Calgary Economic Development, the agency responsible for promoting growth in the city, acknowledges there are challenges out there, but CEO Bruce Graham counters “we’re number one in low unemployment. We’re number one in disposable income growth.”
In his annual report to the city, Graham says Calgary’s economy ranks at the top of 23 North American cities.
“Despite our current economic challenges, Calgary remains an engine of activity. To maintain that number one rank, we need to continue to think big, act bold, and create great.”
There’s a somewhat differing view, however, from Sherry Cooper, vice president of the financial group at the Bank of Montreal. According to her, consumer confidence is plummeting in Canada.
