When does football season start? NFL, college 2016 begin date

When does football season start? NFL, college 2016 begin date

The 2016 NFL regular season will begin on Thursday, Sept. 8 and the first full Sunday of games will take place on Sunday, Sept. 11. The first major college football game of 2016 will be played on Friday, Aug. 26 in Sydney, Australia between Cal and Hawaii (10 p.m., ESPN). The first full Saturday of games will be played on Labor Day weekend – Sept. 3.

The Denver Broncos will host the Carolina Panthers on Sept. 8 in a rematch of last season’s Super Bowl, which was won by Denver. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on NBC.
