When is the Twin Peaks finale?

Kyle MacLachlan in Twin Peaks: The Return

After waiting 26-years for Twin Peaks to come back to their television screens, fans are understandably devastated, and even a little apprehensive, that The Return’s 18 episode run is already on the cusp of coming to an end.

Recent comments from Showtime’s C.E.O. suggest they have every reason to be upset, too. Earlier this month David Nevins admitted that he didn’t think co-creators David Lynch and Mark Frost would make a fourth season. Even if they did want to do so, it likely wouldn’t be for several years.

But when will audiences actually have to bid farewell to Twin Peaks: The Return?

The seventeenth and eighteenth parts of Twin Peaks: The Return will air back-to-back on Showtime between 8 pm and 10 pm EST on Sunday September 3. If you have missed any of the most recent episodes of Twin Peaks: The Return, Showtime is airing the previous sixteen starting from 4 am on the morning of Sunday September 3, which will lead all the way into the two-part finale.

Before then, though, Part 15 and Part 16 will air on Sunday August 20 and Sunday August 27, respectively, and with only four episodes left, fans will be eagerly anticipating the bizarre twists and turns that Lynch, Frost and their esteemed cast undoubtedly have in store for them.

While Twin Peaks: The Return has only found a modest audience, especially in comparison to Showtime’s biggest hits, it has more than proved that the network is willing to prioritize art and quality over ratings and commerce. The Return has also been met with impressive reviews, while the return of original cast members Kyle MacLachlan, Madchen Amick, Sherilyn Fenn, Sheryl Lee and Ray Wise has been complemented by appearances from Monica Bellucci, Trent Reznor, Laura Dern, Robert Forster, Tim Roth, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Ashley Judd, Amanda Seyfried, Naomi Watts and Tom Sizemore.

Unfortunately we only have four episodes left to appreciate Twin Peaks: The Return in all of its glory, while we can only hope that, if it does come back, it doesn’t take 26 years to do so.
