The Jets added some star power to their team this offseason and have a defense that includes an All-Pro in Muhammad Wilkerson and last year’s NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, Sheldon Richardson. But according to Las Vegas, this team lacks elite players.

Renowned gaming website Bovada.LV released their odds for the top 40 selections to be the NFL MVP and not one Jet was on their list. Peyton Manning (3-1) and Drew Brees (11-2) topped a list that included surprising selection Johnny Manziel (200-1). Twelve quarterbacks were represented in the top 15 players, but nary a Jet.

Metro New York asked Bovada.LV to rank the top three contenders for the NFL MVP on the Jets. They ranked Chris Johnson, at 100/1, as the top player with both Eric Decker (300/1) and Geno Smith (300/1) behind him.

“Considering that with the exception of a handful of top-notch running backs and wide receivers who have a legitimate shot at winning MVP, all of the favorites for the award are quarterbacks and in turn a guy like Geno Smith, barring a miracle, will never put up numbers like Peyton, Drew or Aaron [Rodgers] and therefore make him a 300-1 huge long shot for the award,” Kevin Bradley, sports book manager of Bovada.LV told Metro New York. “The only other two Jets I can put on this list without making a mockery of my odds are Eric Decker who I have also at 300-1 and Chris Johnson with the best chance of them all at 100-1. But unless he breaks multiple records these odds could easily be higher.”

Manning, the eventually winner, was 5-1 in Bovada’s annual preseason MVP rankings last year and current Jets quarterback Michael Vick, seemingly slated to backup up Smith at quarterback this year, was then 33-1.

A year removed from a disastrous 2013 with the Jets, then-Patriot quarterback Tim Tebow was 500-1 odds to be NFL MVP. Tebow was cut after a rocky preseason in New England.
