Whitey’s girlfriend agrees to be imprisoned

After two days and about four hours of court hearings, Catherine Greig agreed to be voluntarily held in jail while her lawyer works on more documents in an attempt to get her released.

The hearings were an attempt to convince a federal judge to release Greig on bail and under home confinement, but this afternoon she agreed to be held until a judge can review more documents and make a decision.

It is not clear when the judge will make that decision.

Family members of the alleged victims of Greig’s boyfriend, accused mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger, spoke at her hearing today in an attempt to keep her behind bars.

Some of the family members became emotional as they made their pleas from a podium near the audience. Greig, seated with her back to the podium, looked straight ahead and did not glance at the family members.

“In my eyes … she’s an evil woman,” said Steven Davis, whose sister, Debra, was murdered.

Greig’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, is fighting to have Greig released while she awaits her trial for allegedly harboring Bulger.

Reddington called Bulger associate Kevin Weeks to testify as he tried to paint Greig as an unwitting companion.

Weeks said Greig would sit on a bench and feed birds while he and Bulger talked “business” and planned how they would communicate while Bulger was hiding from authorities seeking to charge him with murder.

“Her only crime is a crime of passion — falling in love,” Reddington said of Greig.

Prosecution witness and FBI Special Agent Michael Carazza continued his testimony from Monday.

Prosecutors tried to show the judge that Greig willingly aided Bulger and concealed both of their identities to evade capture.

A light-hearted moment came during the sometimes testy cross-examination by Reddington.

While showing a picture of allegedly hidden money found in Bulger’s Santa Monica apartment, Carazza also pointed out that in the cash box was a Bed Bath & Beyond mailer and a container of Gas-X.

Reddington said that showed the 60-year-old Greig and the 81-year-old Bulger had “human needs.”
