He’s an actor

The 30-year-old Ohio native is no stranger to Hollywood. Wood has acted in a plethora of television shows including The Vampire Diaries, Containment, The Carrie Diaries and more.

Wood met Benoist on the set of Supergirl

Benoist and Wood met on set in 2016 when Wood landed the role of Supergirl’s love interest Mon-El. Things were heating up romantically onscreen and then offscreen in 2017 when the couple was photographed kissing on the beach in Cancun. Wood appeared on Supergirl for two seasons, but his character traveled to the future at the end of season 3 and did not return for season 4.

He’s dated a few other co-stars before

Wood dated his co-star from The Carrie Diaries, AnnaSophia Robb for a year in 2013 and his co-star from Containment, Hanna Mangan-Lawrence briefly in 2016 before meeting Benoist. Benoist has also had a relationship with her co-star, in 2013 Benoist tied the knot with her Glee co-star Blake Jenner before the two split a few years later due to distance. The divorce was finalized in 2017.

Wood had sparks with Benoist right away

Andrew Kreisberg, executive producer of Supergirl even gushed to Entertainment Weekly about their chemistry in 2016. “The chemistry between Chris and Melissa is definitely palpable, and we’re loving writing their characters together. The next episode is a big Kara/Mon-El story that we’re really excited about. They’re both obviously playing coy about what happened, neither admitting that they actually did kiss, so how and when that comes out is going to be fun and delicious.”

Wood lost his father in 2016 to mental illness

Wood spoke at the Mental Health America 2016 conference shortly after and opened up to Glamour about his loss. “A lot of people go through this, and they don’t need to feel ashamed. Offer to help them find an appointment to speak with someone, or even to accompany them if they feel overwhelmed. Admitting they are having a problem and talking about it is the first step to recovery, so as long as you stay supportive and encourage them to be active in getting help, you’ll be doing more than enough.”
