Suddenly it’s time for all the famous lesbian athletes to get hitched apparently.
Just a couple weeks after WNBA star Brittney Griner popped the question to her girlfriend, tennis legend Martina Navratilova did the same to her longtime partner, Julia Lemigova.
But while Griner went the fellow athlete route — her new fiancee is WNBA All-Star Glory Johnson — Navratilova’s fiancee is a beauty queen.
Literally.
Lemigova was Miss USSR in 1991 and was the second runner-up at the Miss Universe competition that year. Not bad, Martina. But then again, when you’re arguably the greatest female tennis player of all-time I suppose you can get engaged to beauty queens.
Navratilova, 57, is 15 years Lemigova’s senior as well. I’m not sure, but I think that counts as robbing the cradle, Martina.
Previously, Lemigova may have actually been more infamous for her relationship with Edouard Stern than dating Navratilova. Lemigova was the mistress of Stern, a banker who was one of the richest men in France. But Stern was found dead in 2005, shot four times and wearing a full latex body suit. Turns out he was quite the bondage fan and had many mistresses. Lemigova had nothing to do with the death, as a different paramour, Cecile Brossard, was arrested and convicted of murder.
Navratilova popped the question to Lemigova live on Tennis Channel Saturday between men’s semifinal matches. She took to Twitter afterward to thank everyone for the well wishes.
