Colts running back Trent Richardson did not make the team’s flight to Foxboro, Massachusetts for Sunday’s AFC Championship Game (6:40 p.m., CBS) after missing the team’s walk-through practice on Saturday.

The team and Richardson both say that he is dealing with a “personal issue.” The Indianapolis Star reported Sunday that the former No. 3 overall draft pick is dealing with a “legit family issue of a personal nature.”

“I had to miss walk-through,” Richardson told ESPN.com. “I’m dealing with a very serious family emergency. I’m still at the hospital. I wouldn’t purposely just miss walk-through.

“I wouldn’t just purposely turn my back on the team. I would have been there if I wasn’t dealing with this issue.”

Richardson was inactive against the Broncos last weekend but vowed to never be sitting on the bench again during the week leading up to the Patriots game.

“That situation will never happen to me again,” Richardson told the Star about being inactive.“Anybody can quote me, today, because it’s never going to happen again.”

Richardson has seen his production diminish rapidly over the course of the 2014 season, as the last time he carried the ball more than 10 times was on Nov. 23 against the Jaguars.
