Wife killer Colin Thatcher’s children may end up with profits from book

REGINA – The Saskatchewan government says it will go after the profits of convicted wife killer Colin Thatcher’s book and the money could end up with his children.

Justice Minister Don Morgan says officials have finished reading the book and believe it is covered by a new law meant to stop criminals from keeping the proceeds if they sell their crime stories.

The law says the proceeds could go to victims, their family members or a victims fund.

Morgan acknowledges it’s possible that Thatcher’s three children with JoAnn Wilson could benefit, although he says no decision has been made.

Thatcher, a former Saskatchewan cabinet minister, was convicted of killing his former wife 1983, although the children have stood by their father as he proclaimed his innocence.

Thatcher has said he doesn’t think the law applies to his book because it’s about his dealings with the justice system and not the murder itself.
