Wildcat won’t fool the Jets

The Dolphins call it the Wildcat. The Jets can now call it the Mildcat.

In Sunday’s win, the Jets limited the Dolphins to just eight yards on five rushes in their special package. Two other plays out of the Wildcat were called back for penalties and one pass by Ronnie Brown went incomplete. Last year, Miami won both matchups and terrorized Rex Ryan’s unit with direct snaps and option plays.

“We weren’t going to let it have the same effect on us as it did last year,” linebacker Bryan Thomas said.

In fact, the Jets turned the tide on Miami, racking up first downs with Brad Smith running option reads out of the shotgun.

The Jets will be faced with another Wildcat test Sunday against Buffalo, which features Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller.

“It’s more about getting off the blocks and making plays,” said Thomas, who emphasized fighting off containment blocks and keeping the backs between the hash marks.
