Wildrose Alliance considers brand overhaul

What’s in a name?

The Wildrose Alliance has mused about rebranding its logo and website, and even contemplated a name change, though it’s not likely a new name is in the works for the party, according to communications director Shaun Howard.

“I can’t say absolutely rule out anything, but I can say it’s highly unlikely,” he said, adding the Wildrose Alliance has become a Coke/Coca-Cola-type brand.

“Some people call us Wildrose, some people call us Alliance, some people call us Wildrose Alliance. But like a brand, they know where we are.”

The question pops up every now and then to leader Danielle Smith, Howard said, but the name has become well-known.

“We’re going to be looking at changing the logo and the website needs a revamp, but it’s just ordinary branding maintenance,” he added.

Mount Royal University political scientist Duane Bratt said even if the party were to change to a one-word name, it would be an easy move.

“Wildrose is a much simpler name to get across. A name change would keep them in the news and it’s easy enough to do,” he said.
