Following rumors that Queen Bey had touched down in Nashville just in time for tonight’s Country Music Awards, CMT host Cody Alan tweet-confirmed that, yes, the “Lemonade” star will perform. Sources speculate that Beyonce will perform “Daddy Lessons,” her first foray into country on this year’s specular visual album. Coincidentally Billboard declared it last May to be “biggest crossover news in country music since Justin Timberlake brought down the house at the Country Music Association Awards last year alongside Chris Stapleton” — a duet performance some expect tonight’s Bey appearance to echo. (Miranda Lambert’s name has been thrown around to pair.)

Beyonce — who already has that organic Southern flow thanks to her Houston upbringing — was criticized by CMT writer Alison Bonaguro, who deemed the song “no more country than her ‘Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).’” Whilst also bestowing the guidelines for the iron-clad rules of country, writing “It doesn’t sound like a country song to me, she didn’t cut it at a studio in Tennessee, and it certainly wasn’t written by a group of Nashville songwriters. Beyonce wrote this one with Diana ‘Wynter’ Gordon, Kevin Cossum and Alex Delicata.” Right. The 20-time Grammy winner was then defended by the likes of Dierks Bentley and the Dixie Chicks, who even covered the track during their spring tour.

So will this be Beyonce’s opportunity to make the country music purists eat their words? The show airs tonight on ABC and will be hosted by Carrie Underwood andBrad Paisley.
