There may not be a drop of snow on the ground, but there’s still no doubt that winter is on its way.
The Snowsuit Fund kicked off its 2010 campaign yesterday.
“We want to make sure winter and snowsuits are top of mind,” said chair Susan Dennison.
“Ottawa has a harsh and brutal winter, and being cold in the city is not a pleasant thing. I think it really resonates with people. (The Snowsuit Fund) is really Ottawa-based, it’s really grassroots, and our donors are really generous.”
“A lot of people can’t afford snowsuits,” said Greg Carter, whose daughter, Tia, received the first snowsuit of the season yesterday. “They’re pretty expensive and it’s very important that every child have a snowsuit.”
“We’re pretty happy to help out any way we can,” said Erin Phillips, who, along with her husband, Ottawa Senator Chris Phillips, are the Snowsuit Fund’s honorary chairs.
“We have three young kids and we know how important it is to keep them warm and how cold our climate (is). Giving kids the right clothing to enjoy the winter makes a big difference in their lives. It’s warm out today, but the cold isn’t far away.”
