Winterhawks continue to dominate at home

PORTLAND, Ore. – Marcel Noebels and Joseph Morrow each scored twice as the Portland Winterhawks downed the Everett Silvertips 7-4 Tuesday in the Western Hockey League.

The Winterhawks (31-14-3) set a new franchise record with their 18th straight home win, eclipsing the previous mark of 17 set during the 1993-94 season.

The WHL record for consecutive home victories is 29, set by the Kamloops Blazers in 1993-94.

Ryan Harrison scored two goals for Everett (10-29-9), which trails Victoria by six points for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Everett led 2-1 late in the first period on goals by Zack McPhee and Harrison, but Noebels and Derrick Pouliot scored late as Portland took a 3-2 lead after 20 minutes.

Portland extended the lead to 4-2 in the second period on a goal by Brendan Leipsic, but the Silvertips scored twice in 48 seconds midway through the period to knot things up.

Taylor Peters and Noebels scored late in the second period to rebuild Portland’s two-goal advantage. Morrow’s power play goal at 4:34 of the third rounded out the scoring.

With two assists, Portland’s Ty Rattie reclaimed the lead in the WHL scoring race with 83 points, two points better than Regina’s Jordan Weal.
