Wipeout Canada hopefuls go faster, higher, sillier

Calgarians clad in their craziest costumes packed the Telus Convention Centre yesterday hoping to catch the eye of judges for the upcoming television show Wipeout Canada.

Those who are accepted will face an obstacle course with “crashes, smashes and hilarious mud splashes,” but the winner takes home a princely grand prize.

Brothers Mark, John and Ryan Harper came decked out as their favourite Teletubbies — Tinky Winky, Dipsy and Po. “You just gotta have high energy, you’ve gotta be unique. You’ve gotta have something that makes you stand out,” Ryan said.

Amber Groome, a.k.a. the Boxing Barista, arrived from Edmonton in her green apron and boxing gear.

Even Calgary’s own version of New York City’s Naked Cowboy came to audition.

“I figured Canada needed its own Naked Cowboy, and we are Cowtown, so giddy up!” he said.
