A 46-year-old Port Hawkesbury woman is facing a charge of impaired driving after Halifax RCMP say a woman traveled several kilometres down the wrong way of Highway 102 early Tuesday morning.
Police say at 4:30 a.m., they received a call about a woman driving the wrong way on the busy highway near Exit 4C in Lower Sackville. Police allege she was traveling outbound in one of the inbound lanes.
Police spokesman Cst. Tamu Bracken said the driver went onto the highway the wrong way at the Kearney Lake exit near Halifax. Bracken said she pulled herself over by Exit 4C, adding there were no reports of cars being forced to swerve out of the way to miss her.
“She traveled quite the distance,” Bracken said. “By the time we got there, the vehicle was already stopped at the side of the road.”
Bracken said when police arrived, the driver allegedly showed signs of being impaired and was arrested and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle. She was also charged with failing to provide a breath sample upon demand. Police allege she was uncooperative when asked to give the breath samples at the local police detatchment.
“They gave the breath samples and were unable to get proper readings because she was refusing to give a proper sample,” Bracken said.
The woman has been released with a promise to appear in Dartmouth provincial court on March 10.
