Woman escapes rape attempt in Brooklyn: Police

A woman survived an attempted rape by a knife-wielding man still on the loose early Tuesday morning, police said.

Authorities said the 45-year-old woman was sitting on a bench on Smith Street in Boerum Hill when the suspect approached and struck up conversation at around 5 a.m.

The man then offered to by the woman a soda and cigarettes, investigators said. The both walked a few blocks down to a Rite Aid on Court Street, where the man bought the items.

But that’s when NYPD said the conversation turned violent and the man soon forcefully grabbed the woman and wrapped a black electronic cord around her neck.

The man then tried to cut the woman’s clothes off with a knife as he choked the woman, who began to scream.

Cops said the shouts scared the man off as he began to run away from the scene at Pacific Street towards Boerum Place

Police described the suspect as a Hispanic man, approximately 5-feet-4-inches tall and about 30 years old.

He was last seen wearing a black leather vest with studs on the back, a light-colored shirt, dark jeans and black cowboy boots.
