Woman facing impaired driving charges after police car hit

A 23-year-old woman is facing charges of impaired driving after Halifax Regional Police say an Ontario resident ran into an unmarked police car on the intersection of Sackville and Barrington streets early Sunday morning.

Police say at 3:20 a.m. the officer in an unmarked car was on Sackville Street and stopped at the flashing red light on Barrington, when a second vehicle travelling south on Barrington made a right turn onto Sackville and struck the police car head on.

No one was injured, but both vehicles were “significantly damaged”, according to an HRP release.

Besides impaired driving, the woman is also facing a charge of having a blood alcohol reading that exceeds 80 mg. of alcohol in 100 mm. of blood.
