Woman found dead in park not murdered: RCMP

A body discovered only blocks from the site of a high-profile unsolved killing in Pacific Spirit Park was not murdered, police said yesterday.

RCMP Sgt. Peter Thiessen said the woman, whose body was discovered at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, has been tentatively identified and investigators have been in touch with her family.

“There is no indication of trauma on this young woman, and I’ll stress, the death is not criminal in nature,” he said.

The body was found in the bush, about 30 metres from a trail in Pacific Spirit Park. The official cause of her death will be determined by a toxicology report. Thiessen said it would likely fall into one of three categories — accidental, suicide or by natural causes.

Thiessen would not name her, but suggested she had been the subject of a Vancouver police missing person alert at the end of May.

In April 2009, Wendy Ladner-Beaudry was murdered while jogging along a trail near 41st Avenue and Camosun Street.
