A woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries after the vehicle she was driving lost control and flipped onto the Rideau Canal Skateway yesterday morning.
Emergency crews were called to the scene at around 8:40 a.m. to find a black SUV that had smashed through the barrier along Colonel By Drive around 50 metres east of the Bank Street Bridge.
The driver was trapped in the vehicle and was treated for injuries by paramedics while firefighters worked to extricate her. A passenger around 12 years old was assessed by paramedics at the scene, but did not appear to have suffered any injuries.
National Capital Commission Jean Wolff said the incident was a police matter, and it did not require any serious suspension of skateway operations.
