A Quebec woman was rescued from the waters of Peggy’s Cove Tuesday afternoon after she fell off the rocks.
RCMP spokesman Cpl. Joe Taplin said the woman in her 40s was part of a bus tour from Quebec. She stepped too close to the water and was swept overboard, Taplin said. She spent about 12 minutes in the ocean before staff at the nearby Sou’Wester Restaurant and Gift Shop managed to pull her in using a life preserver.
Taplin said the woman suffered no serious injuries and was reportedly in good health.
“She got too close to the edge but luckily with the quick reaction of the employers at the Sou’Wester, who are fairly organized and used to dealing with capricious situations out there, they got her pulled ashore,” Taplin said. “Everything turned out OK, thank God.”
Taplin said people in the area are highly organized in emergency situations and fishing boats would likely have been en route had using the life preserver failed.
Taplin said it’s not unusual for this type of incident to occur, particularly when the waves are high and the rocks get slippery.
