Women’s soccer league could face tough times

The jury’s out on whether David Beckham and professional men’s soccer can succeed in North America — it never has before — so why in the world would anyone risk their hard-earned money to to launch a women’s pro league on this continent next year?

This, however, is precisely what’s being planned. At least six and possibly eight clubs will compete in the new women’s league, which will kick off in the spring of 2008 and will include Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas and possibly even Toronto.

I wish these folks lots of luck. They’ll need it.
