Only days after his death, the City of Edmonton is already considering honouring actor Leslie Nielsen.
The city’s naming committee will discuss Neilsen’s biography and then determine if he meets the requirements necessary to be on the city’s names reserve list.
City planner Cory Sousa doesn’t anticipate an issue with adding Nielsen’s name, but once that has happened someone will have to make an application for a renaming.
“We encourage groups, such as family or fans linked (to him) to take charge,” said Sousa.
One option would be renaming a roadway near Victoria School of the Arts, where Nielsen graduated from in 1942.
Kingsway Avenue and Arthur Hiller Avenue already exist in the area.
Sousa said that connecting a roadway named after Arthur Hiller, a movie director who went to school with Nielsen, with another named after the comedian might be fitting.
