Yahoo has opted to quietly shutter its Yahoo Screenoperation,a streaming content service meant to do battle with Netflix and Hulu, after just over two years of operation. The service launched in late 2013 and began adding original titles in 2014, but aside from its high-profile acquisition of NBC’s canceled”Community,” little caught on with viewers spoiled by an already crowded streaming marketplace.

“At Yahoo, we’re constantly reviewing and iterating on our products as we strive to create the best user experience,” a Yahoo spokesperson said in astatement to Mashable. “With that in mind, video content from Yahoo as well as our partners has been transitioned from Yahoo Screen to our Digital Magazine properties so users can discover complementary content in one place.”

The company’s attempt at branching out into original content — with the acquisition of “Community” for a sixth season and the launch of two more original series, “Sin City Saints” and “Other Space” — was already deemed a failure in October, when Yahoo revealed it had lost $42 million on the effort and would not be pursuing any more original productions.
