Yankees ace lefty CC Sabathia has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with soreness in his left elbow.
Manager Joe Girardi had spoken before Saturday’s win in Toronto and said they might need to skip Sabathia’s turn in the rotation. But he also said it was a “non-issue.” Now, we know they will do more than that and place him on the DL.
Sabathia first felt the soreness in his start against Seattle and then again in his last start in Detroit. He underwent an MRI, which showed no structural damage.
“As for our concern, it’s pretty low-level,” Girardi said.
Sabathia was scheduled to make his next start on Monday. He reportedly still wanted to, but the Yankees thought it better to be cautious.
He is 12-3 with a 3.56 ERA this season. He also missed time around the All-Star break with a groin injury.
