It will take time to measure the real effect of having New York City FC in MLS but at least initially, the new club’s affiliation with EPL giant Manchester City seems like a great ancillary benefit to the league in general.

For instance, in an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Ryan Wallerson held earlier this week, Manchester City star Yaya Toure talked about his desire to remain in England at the moment but it is noteworthy that he also mentioned New York being on the horizon in his career.

“Manchester City is the right team for me to go out on top with but if I’m asked to come to New York to help City grow, I would do that for them,” he told SI.

Toure is 32 and he’s signed with Manchester City through 2017 but that didn’t stop the transfer rumors linking him to other European powerhouses like Paris Saint-Germain (France), Chelsea (England) and Liverpool (England) earlier this summer.

“I have my contract and there’s no feeling for me to get out from City,” he said. “For me, there’s no other place that I want to go.”

Toure has been at City since 2010 and in that time, the Ivory Coast international’s career has taken off while the club has won two EPL titles and one FA Cup. An injury-plagued campaign limited the big center midfielder to just 10 goals last season after he scored 20 in Manchester City’s last EPL title season in 2013-14.
