A cab driver found guilty of raping a female passenger in 2011 was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Monday.

Gurmeet Singh, 43, was convicted on May 2 for the rape and kidnapping of a woman he picked up in Williamsburg and drove to her East Village home.

A jury convicted Singh of taking the 26-year-old woman, who fell asleep in the back of his yellow cab, to his own vehicle.

Once she woke up, Singh allegedly held a knife to her throat. He proceeded to bind, gag and blindfold the woman before raping her and leaving her outside his car.

“The defendant had a duty to drive a young woman home, but instead he brutally raped her at knifepoint,” Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson said in a statement.

“Today’s sentence ensures that this defendant will no longer be a threat to society or a danger to other unsuspecting women, and I only hope that the victim can find comfort and closure at this time,” Thompson added.

Authorities caught Singh in 2012 after an joint investigation with the Taxi & Limousine Commission linked him to a second, unrelated assault through DNA evidence.

An attorney for Singh did not reply to request for comment by Monday evening.
