Yetman shines as Mooseheads close out rough road trip with a win

A brutal road trip ended on a winning note for the Halifax Mooseheads last night in Quebec.

The Mooseheads earned a 5-4 shootout victory over the Victoriaville Tigres, bouncing back from a 4-3 loss to the Gatineau Olympiques on Friday and a 6-2 setback to the powerful Shawinigan Cataractes on Saturday.

“It’s great to end it that way and go into the week on a positive note,” said Mooseheads head coach Cam Russell.

“We’ve got a little momentum and every win is huge.”

Goaltender Mark Yetman sparkled with 40 saves and denied both shootout attempts. Tomas Knotek scored twice, while Gerrad Grant and Yuri Cheremetiev netted singles. Jan Stransky and Cheremetiev converted in the shootout.

The Mooseheads improved to 16-35-6, two points behind Lewiston and three points behind Baie-Comeau, teams they must pass to make the playoffs with just 11 games to go.

Halifax plays its next five games at home, starting Thursday against the Saint John Sea Dogs.
