The great Greek yogurt war started when Chobani opened its flagship store at 150 Prince St. in SoHo – self-described as a “one-of-a-kind Mediterranean yogurt bar.” Not one to let Chobani steal the spotlight, Yoplait started a “food fight” with the prominent Greek yogurt brand and started an ad campaign stating that two out of three customers prefer the taste of Yoplait Greek yogurt over Chobani’s.

Yoplait cranked up the competition by opening a pop-up store right down the street at 463 West Broadway and sweetened the deal: They’re letting people sample yogurt for free and giving out coffee. Visitors are also invited to do side-by-side taste tests of Yoplait Greek and Chobani blueberry-flavored yogurt. Yoplait’s free pop-up store will be open through Saturday at 7 p.m.

Dannon Oikos joined the Greek yogurt war and parked a truck near the two other stores to hand out samples of their product as well. Why can’t the three brands get along? It’s Greek to us.
