A person was shot and an officer struck by a vehicle in an altercation in Lynn today, according to reports.

The area of Jefferson Street in Lynn was closed to traffic Monday and a Metro photographer captured images of three vehicles badly damaged at the scene, among them a Ford SUV with a bullet hole through the top of its windshield and heavy front-end damage.

The nature of injuries sustained was not made public.

Neighbors said they heard gunshots in the area Sunday night.

“Last night I was over at my friend’s house and we heard a bang,” said Oscar Miranda, 16, who said he lives nearby. “At first I thought they were fireworks, but a few minutes later we heard three more and then could see the police down the street.

“The bullet went through my neighbor’s house. The police were there and they looked for the shells but couldn’t find any. They said they were going to come back this morning.”
