Avoiding the rain, a crowd packed Dorchester's Florian Hall today to recognize veterans for Memorial Day.

Mayor Marty Walsh, Sen. Linda Dorcena Forry andGov. Charlie Baker each at the event, remembering the more than 37,000 from Massachusetts who have died in battle since the Revolution.

“They walked away from families, from friends, from jobs, from safety to put themselves in harm’s way on behalf of this nation, their neighbors and their fellow Americans,” Baker said, according to a report from CBS. “That is why you are all here today.”
