Brad Pitt is maybe accidentally being a dick to Jennifer Aniston

Generally, we know that nothing good can come of talking about your ex after the two of you have broken up — and we can only imagine that that goes double for talking to the press about them.

So in terms of real life relationships, it’s puzzling why Brad Pitt would would want to say some slightly condescending things about Jennifer Aniston seven years after they broke up — but in terms of the meta-narrative of the Most Interesting Love Triangle Of Our Time, stuff like this is solid gold. From Parade:

I spent the ‘90s trying to hide out, trying to duck the full celebrity cacophony. I started to get sick of myself sitting on a couch, holding a joint, hiding out. It started feeling pathetic. It became very clear to me that I was intent on trying to find a movie about an interesting life, but I wasn’t living an interesting life myself. I think that my marriage [to actress Jennifer Aniston] had something to do with it. Trying to pretend the marriage was something that it wasn’t. … One of the greatest, smartest things I ever did was give my kids Angie as their mom. She is such a great mom. Oh, man, I’m so happy to have her.

Pitt’s mistake here, of course, is forgetting that implying to the world that you are so much better and happier now that you’re not with your ex is only something that celebrities who have been dumped by other celebrities can do. When you were the celebrity dumper, it just makes you seem unnecessarily mean, like you’re twisting the knife.

But it looks like someone told him that, because now Pitt has apologized! From a statement to the Hollywood Reporter:

It grieves me that this was interpreted this way. Jen is an incredibly giving, loving and hilarious woman who remains my friend. It is an important relationship I value greatly. The point I was trying to make is not that Jen was dull, but that I was becoming dull to myself — and that, I am responsible for.

To us, we think that sounds nice! However, we are dudes, and sort of oblivious ones at that! The lady-friends we’ve talked to say that this apology is even worse! What do you think?
