Need to lose an inch or two before the beach? Boston’s newest fitness spots are all about carb-burning, cardio-conditioning high-action.
A spin-off from the spin trend, The Handle Bar indoor cycling studio opened this month in South Boston, offering 45-minute and 60-minute classes set to a dynamic soundtrack. Founder Jessica Bashelor has filled the 1,700 square foot studio with 30 Schwinn AC Sport bikes, and every class will use weighted bars for working upper body muscles. Classes will also vary in routine. Bikes can be reserved online up to seven days in advance, but no later than one hour prior to the class. Walk-ins are also welcome.
Hot on the wheels, ahem, of the South End location, a second Recycle Studio has opened on Newbury: Recycle Studio Boston Common offers more classes and more instructors. At 22 riders, it’s an intimate, intense class. There are ten class options, each offering a total body workout and incorporating light weights to tone the arms, back and chest. A variety of abdominal exercises, yoga and light stretching are incorporated, too. Four certified instructors offer one-on-one training, and Recycle’s retail bar features Weymouth-based The Ripe Stuff’s bespoke green juice, Refuel.
BodyScapes Fitness has a summer promotion for new members: Buy any membership (three-month, six-month or one-year) and work out free for the entire summer, because you won’t start paying until September. The promotion ends on Aug. 15.
