Skiers looking for some local fun on the slopes should be sure to hit Windham Mountain Resort (www.windhammountain.com), which recently underwent a $7 million renovation to bring its trail count to 52. There is a new beginner’s slope, Whisper Run, which is conveniently located in front of the main lodge if it turns out a sip of hot cocoa is more your thing than a day on skis. The Windfall is a new intermediate trail on the mountain’s west peak — it starts off with a gradual slope before getting steep and then zig-zaggy midway through. For serious skiers, the Whataride Glades are a black-diamond destination through the forest. And if that turns out to be too much, visitors can just hop back on the Windfall, which is right nearby. Beginner or not, we recommend a whirl on the green Wanderer trail, which offers a picturesque, gradual ride down the east mountain.
