More than 700,000 people are expected to descend on Arthur Ashe Stadium for the U.S. Open these next two weeks — and that’s a whole lot of mouths to feed. The Open is renowned for stadium food that goes beyond the typical hot dogs and fries. Here’s a taste of what you can expect this year at the Open:
New food stands: At the Food Village — where attendees can savor everything from Indian fare to Carnegie Deli sandwiches — two new outposts are being added. The first, Fresca Mexicana, will offer a variety of tortas (Mexican sandwiches), plus tacos, nachos, salad and more. The second, Hill Country Barbecue, is a pop-up of the renowned ‘cue spot in the Flatiron district. It’s serving chopped brisket, Texas tenders (gigantic chicken strips, because everything is bigger in Texas), seasonal pie cups and more. “We want to make pies the new cupcake,” says Elizabeth Karmel, Hill Country’s executive chef.
An Oyster Bar: Enjoy the game in a most luxurious fashion, with the beloved bivalves, plus caviar, lobster rolls and shrimp cocktails.
Heineken House: Need a meeting place? Tell your friends to gather on the upper level of the Food Village stands by court 17 — three separate bars await.
Wine Bar Food: Some matches are so intense, you need a glass of wine to take the edge off. Hit this space for bubbly or a deeper red, and nibble on the salumi antipasto with parmesan to put a little something other than booze in your belly.
