Fashion week 2013 trend: plaid

Saint Laurent - Runway - PFW F/W 2013

Three takes on plaid
Plaid is not exactly a print associated with Yves Saint Laurent, but that’s exactly what Hedi Slimane showed on Monday night in his second women’s wear collection for the house now known simply as Saint Laurent Paris. His was the Nineties, grunge variety (think Courtney Love-style flannels), which was even more unexpected, sparking lots of “Yves must be rolling over in his grave” kinds of
captions on Instagram. Meanwhile, Stella McCartney took a more professional and polished route using the checks on oversized, tailored day coats. And Phoebe Philo took her plaid to Chinatown, referencing those $2 plastic cash-and-carry bags in a series of coats that we can all assume will cost a whole lot more than $2. That said, the big takeaway here is that plaid is not going anywhere as a trend anytime soon. Consider it to be the new leopard print, which never goes out of style. So feel free to keep that tartan at the front of your closet a few seasons longer.
